Carvell, Mrs. Edith Bacon Collection – A-85 (P-1)

This large black and white photograph is of the Ludington Home located at 704 Bacon Road in Portage, Michigan. The image was taken c. 1880-1890 and is labeled on the reverse: “Ludington Farm House where Frank and Lottie Bacon and family lived. The fence was taken down probably before 1900.” According to the Portage Historic District Commission, the home was built on the corner of Terry Lane and Bacon road in 1870 by Archibald Ludington, a local sheep farmer and was constructed in a combination of Greek Revival and Italianate style often referred to as Transitional. As of 2009, the home still stands with only moderate additions and improvements.
